What guests can look forward to
Thalersee lake is not only a romantic setting for marriage proposals, but also a popular destination for outdoor activities such as walking, hiking and running. In winter, depending on conditions, visitors can enjoy ice skating, cross-country skiing and traditional Austrian ice stock sport. The beautiful natural surroundings also make it an ideal place to relax and unwind.
Golf enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy in Thal. Grazer Golfclub offers an 18-hole golf course, complemented by an additional 9 holes.
"Even from a distance, it should be clear that this is a sacred place. Wherever the eye turns, there must be something to see." This was the guiding principle of renowned artist Ernst Fuchs, who transformed St James's Church (Jakobuskirche) into a remarkable work of art, featuring an extraordinary variety of colours, shapes and impressive lighting effects.
Thal is also the starting point of the West Styrian Way of St James, an eight-stage pilgrimage route leading from Thal to Lavamünd. At each stage destination and every church dedicated to St James along the route, a pilgrim stone indicates the remaining distance to Santiago de Compostela.
